Nicki graduated from Sheffield University Medical School in 1997 and quickly developed an interest in Acute Medicine long before it was a recognised specialty. Nicki followed her own training plan through numerous Medical specialties, Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthetics with a career in Acute Medicine in mind.
Post MRCP, as there were as yet no higher training numbers in Acute Medicine in the UK, Nicki and her husband spent a year working on the Central Coast in New South Wales, Australia. This was a unique opportunity to work as a Medical Registrar in the Emergency Department and gain experience of Acute Medicine and a different health care system. It was also a fabulous opportunity to travel Australia and circumnavigate the world.
Nicki was the first Specialist Registrar to be appointed to the Acute Medicine Training Programme in South Yorkshire in 2005 and the first purpose trained GIM (Acute) CCT holder to be appointed to an Acute Medicine Consultant post at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals in 2008. Very soon after becoming a Consultant, Nicki took over the role of Training Programme Director for Acute Medicine in South Yorkshire, a post which she held for 6 years.
Developing an interest in Medical Education during her Specialist Registrar years, Nicki designed a teaching programme for Acute Medicine, a programme that still runs to this day. Nicki went on to complete a PgDip in Healthcare Education whilst juggling the demands of a now young family and a busy Consultant career.
Nicki was appointed to the role of Associate Dean with Health Education England, Yorkshire and Humber in 2018.
When the opportunity to train as a Coach for Doctors via HEE arose in 2018, Nicki jumped at the chance. Recognising how exhausting it had been to navigate her own career path and the difficulty experienced in finding balance between juggling her ambition with the needs of a young family, Nicki was driven to support other doctors in a way that hadn’t been available to her.
After gaining an ILM Level 5 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring, Nicki trained with One Of Many™ to become a Certified Women’s Coach and Trainer.
In her spare time, Nicki enjoys family camping holidays, dog walks, swimming and Zumba. In fact, Nicki is also trained as a Zumba instructor. She enjoys baking and uses her creative side to design birthday cakes for her boys.
Nicki is passionate about helping doctors find balance, find their confidence and own their leadership style. She is dedicated to helping doctors find successful and fulfilling careers without burning out. Nicki can help you find balance, step into your confidence and fulfil your true potential.
